The Shangana Village Journey

The most significant thing about the Shangana people is that they do know other people, meaning that they have ubuntu "vu munhu" amongst themselves and other cultures. During the interview the Chief invited me and my crew to come back and spend a weekend with them in order to know a lot of things about my culture, and they also welcome anyone from around the world to join them. I was impressed by the invitation and the way I saw many tourist visiting them in order to know about the Shangana culture.

Vu munhu means ubuntu  BUT in Shangana language or Xitsonga.

One day we will go deep between Shangana and Xitsonga in order to explore more concerning to this two contradiction, or maybe someone can share a better information about the two. It seems like many people are running around the bush since there's lack of information about who is who while is one language. Hopeful we will do a research.

There's no beautiful thing than to see young girls play African games such as kento and other games. We joined these lovely children and play with them even though we didn't win. You may wonder what is Kento, "is a game that they use small stones and they play it on bare soil, they dig a small hole then throw the stone above 1 m and take only on stone inside the whole while catching the other they've throw". Is an interesting game. In order to watch or learn how to play it, get the DVD copy from African Discovers TV and or visit The Shangana Cultural Village is situated at Hazyview on the road to Graskop.

So when the Chief comes to join his guests a group of people they go fetch him with a song and bring him to the lapa, and there they perform cultural dances and do story telling. You feel like you're dreaming especially if you never see them do such beautiful things. They have a such energy and the environment felt with joy.

If you will love to learn about this culture visit the Shangana Cultural Village today, you can contact African Discovers TV on social media today to get yourself a DVD copy.
